Russia finds weak spot in air defences: What changes in attacks on Ukraine

Russia uses a new tactic in attacks on Kyiv. Kamikaze drones now fly at low altitudes, making them less visible to air defence systems and more dangerous for civilians.

Russian forces have changed their strike tactics against Kyiv by deploying drones that fly at low altitudes. This makes them harder to detect by air defence systems while simultaneously increasing the threat to the civilian population.

The statement was made by Hennadiy Khazan, President of the All-Ukrainian Aviation Organisation «Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association», in a comment to Kyiv24.

«In Kyiv, we saw „Shahed“ attacks at low altitudes, which led to one of the drones colliding with high-voltage power lines. Unfortunately, there was also a direct strike on a residential building where people were living in close proximity. There are fatalities, ” the expert said.

According to Khazan, drones flying at low altitudes are less visible to radar and air defence assets but significantly increase risks for civilians.
