The European Union and the United States must maintain pressure on Russia if a peace deal is to be fair.

Pressure on Russia must continue, because without it Ukraine will not obtain the kind of peace agreement it is seeking, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said in an interview with Novyny.LIVE.

“As for a peace agreement, unfortunately it is unlikely to take the form we would like without pressure on Russia. Pressure is necessary in any case — sanctions and military support,” Podolyak said.

He said Ukraine’s role as an international actor is much stronger than a year ago.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg repors, citing a source close to the Kremlin, that Russia plans to demand significant changes to a 20-point peace plan jointly developed by Ukraine and the U.S.

According to the source, Moscow views the document only as a starting point for further negotiations, saying it lacks several provisions Russia considers important and fails to address a number of key questions.

The source added that the Kremlin sees the current plan as a “fairly typical Ukrainian version” but intends to study it “with a cool head.”

At the same time, Bloomberg notes that Russia is unlikely to reject the proposal outright, as it does not want to risk damaging relations with U.S. President Donald Trump.
