Russia sharply increases traffic via its own satellites after Starlink shutdown
Data transmitted via Russia’s own satellites more than doubled after Starlink was cut off. Analysts say the country is trying to compensate for the lost communications channels.
Russia seeks to replace Starlink with its own satellites
Following the Starlink shutdown in Russia, data transmitted through Russian internet-providing satellites has more than doubled.
Serhii «Flash» Beskrestnov, Adviser to Ukraine’s Defense Minister, says Russia is trying to replace lost communications with its own satellites, employing the same external dishes used for satellite television.
«We analysed Russian satellite activity after Starlink access was lost. The increase in data transmission shows the enemy is trying to make up for communication restrictions with its own systems, ” Beskrestnov said.
He says that the sudden jump in traffic could indicate active network reconfiguration and greater load on Russian satellites, which had previously carried out only part of internet coverage.
