The aggressor Russian Armed Forces have used ground-launched 9M729 “Novator” cruise missiles over 20 times in strikes against Ukraine. These missiles are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, and their production is prohibited under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

Oleksandr Sorochyk, First Secretary at Ukraine’s Permanent Mission in Vienna, confirmed this, according to Ukrinform.

“Russia has fired "Novator" missiles at Ukraine 23 times,” he stressed.

Sorochyk added that the missile’s range exceeds 1,200 km.

“We have confirmed evidence that Russia has used 9M729 "Novator" cruise missiles (NATO designation SSC-8 Screwdriver) — a ground-launched missile system capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and directly banned by the treaty,” the diplomat said.

According to him, Russia’s production of this particular missile was the reason the United States withdrew from the treaty in August 2019.

During his speech, Sorochyk also detailed Russia’s heavy air assaults on Ukrainian cities over the past week. According to him, during this period alone, Russia launched 1,718 strike drones and 70 missiles, 25 of which were ballistic.
