Russia uses nuclear energy as a weapon: Zelenskyy announced new sanctions
Global restrictive work on the Russian nuclear industry has begun.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced that on April 22, three new sanctions against those who invest in and support Russian aggression came into force.
He spoke about this during the traditional evening address.
"First of all, this is another package of sanctions against the Russian military industry - enterprises that provide the terrorist army. This time, 322 companies have been added to the sanctions lists - manufacturers of weapons, components, etc.," the Ukrainian leader emphasized. According to the President, other two sanctions lists include individuals and legal entities who "assist in circumventing sanctions against Russia, hold the property of war criminals, and are involved in destroying freedom both on the territory of Russia and on our land." Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukrainian sanctions packages are synchronized with Western partners to remove any opportunities for Russia to circumvent sanctions, as such schemes add "time to this war" and "opportunities for the aggressor."
"The tougher the sanctions regime against Russia, the more restrictions against the terrorist state and all persons associated with it, as well as against the entire Russian war economy, the faster the end of the aggression will be. And I thank everyone in the world who understands this," the President said. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of "global restrictive work on the Russian nuclear industry" that has begun. "This industry not only generates funds for the aggressor's budget but also helps to put other countries in dependence through supposedly 'energy' nuclear projects implemented on their territories. Any type of energy for the Kremlin is a weapon. Nuclear energy is also a weapon for them," he stressed. Zelenskyy noted that Russia uses the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant as a weapon to blackmail the world with a catastrophe.
"It's good that Britain, America, France, Japan, and Canada formed an alliance that should remove the nuclear industry of the terrorist state from the global market," the Ukrainian president said. Volodymyr Zelenskyy also thanked for the military aid that Ukraine received this week from the USA and Canada, as well as Estonia and Finland, Slovakia (provided aviation), and the Netherlands, which strengthened Ukrainian air defense and together with Denmark made a decision on tanks. The president thanked Switzerland for the new sanctions measures against Russian terrorists and expressed hope that Germany's new decisions "will ensure more peace in our skies, and... there may be new steps that will bring more peace to our land."
Traditionally, the President expressed his gratitude to the soldiers at the front, who are fighting "in the toughest places on the front line - Maryinka and Bakhmut, Avdiivka, the Lyman direction."
"I thank the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the border guards... Today I would like to pay special attention to the Timur’s unit of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence, which is fighting in Bakhmut. Thank you, guys, for your courage and efficiency!” - said Zelenskyy.
