During the strike, a reporter from the German broadcaster WELT, working on assignment with Ukrainian forces, was wounded. One Ukrainian soldier was killed in the attack, while another sustained life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred on October 13 at around 21:35, in open terrain roughly 25–30 kilometers from the front line.
The WELT team was documenting the operations of a mobile air defense unit when the Russian drone struck military equipment belonging to the 42nd Brigade.
The blast erupted just meters from the journalists. Producer Ivan suffered shrapnel injuries to both legs and was evacuated to a hospital. Chief reporter Ibrahim Naber and cameraman Viktor Lysenko incurred minor injuries. The strike itself was captured on camera — the footage will feature in an upcoming WELT report.
A 48-year-old Ukrainian serviceman was killed in the attack. Another soldier sustained severe trauma leading to the amputation of his leg.
This is not the first instance of journalists falling victim to Russian strikes.
