Russian Secret Services Have Launched  a Phycological Attack on Ukrainian Military Using SMS Messages of Intimidating Content  

The messages contain the calls to betray the oath, lay down the arms and surrender or defect to the enemy's side, as the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

The invaders bolster their threats with personal data, such as last names and first names, taxpayer codes, registered addresses and details of family members of the Ukrainian military servicemen.

The threats are sent either in SMS or using the popular messaging apps such as Telegram, Viber, WhatsApp or Signal. 

The authors of messages claim that they have already identified exact location of the recipient, and if a telephone number owner continues to serve in the Ukrainian military, the precise missile strikes will be launched to target him and his family members.

"The primary purpose of these messages is to destabilize the psychological climate in the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, sow doubts and undermine the morale”, the official statement reads.

According to the General Staff, the personal data used in the messages are mostly outdated (i.e. a serviceman has long changed his registered place of residents or moved to different region, has been transferred to a different unit, has retired from military service, et cetera).

"Therefore, these threats are obviously nothing more, but psychological manipulation. These enemy actions clearly meet the definition of purely psychological attack, which is not supported by any actual hazard apart from intimidating statements like “precise missile strikes  or “we will find you”. We strongly urge the public to trust only the information from official reliable sources”, the General Staff representatives summarized.
