Russian Troops Are Stockpiling Explosives and Fortifying a Military Base at Enerhodar Nuclear Power Plant
The nuclear power plant in Enerhodar is controlled by around 500 Russian military personnel, who stockpile explosives and ordinance directly at the facility.
According to Petro Kotin, the Head of Enerhoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine, the Russian troops are using the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar as the military base.
"We are still in control of the plant’s operation. The plant’s personnel continues to follow our directions, and the energy units connected to the Ukrainian electric energy system generate the power output to the grid. Nevertheless, the employees are working under the immense pressure because of constant presence of the enemy troops. We’ve also received several reports about kidnappings and abuse of the plant’s workers”, Kotin explained.
According to him, the invaders are essentially using the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as their military base. The plant is equipped with the high-performing CCTV systems, security barriers, special emergency shelters for personnel and large break room and sleeping quarters.
“So it’s hard to find a better location for a military base. Moreover, the Russians perfectly realize that the large quantity of nuclear materials stored at the plant offers them ultimate protection, since Ukraine would never barrage hazardous facility”, Kotin added.
