Russian defense minister Serhiy Shoigu sees "serious risks of conflict escalation" due to Western assistance to Ukraine.
He made this statement during a meeting of the defense ministry collegium, as reported by Russian propagandists.
"The readiness of the West to invest a significant part of the available resources into Ukraine in order to break the situation on the battlefield creates serious risks of escalation of the conflict," he said.
He also perceives threats to Russia in the west and northwest. According to him, these threats have increased once again, particularly due to Finland's NATO membership and, in the future, Sweden.
"A destabilizing factor is the accession of Finland (and Sweden in the future) to NATO. There are also risks associated with the militarization of Poland, which has turned into the main tool of the US's anti-Russian policy. Threats to Russia's military security require a timely and adequate response," the Russian minister worried.
