Ukraine is actively working on creating its own missile defense system that could intercept the Russian ballistic missile "Oreshnik." In addition, negotiations are ongoing with allies who already have such air defense systems.

This was reported by Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview with TSN correspondent Andriy Tsaplienko on "TSN.Tyzhden".

According to him, only a few air defense systems are capable of intercepting ballistic missiles like the Russian "Oreshnik."

"Unfortunately, we don’t have them yet. But we must do everything to ensure that they appear," said the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Oleksandr Syrskyi notes that the threat of an "Oreshnik" strike forces Ukraine to not only actively negotiate with allies who have the necessary air defense systems but also to work on developing "its own air defense system that would also be missile defense."

"And, of course, this should push us to create a missile system that could serve as a deterrent to the use of such weapons by the Russians," he added.

The Commander-in-Chief emphasized that work in this direction is actively underway.

"I hope that we will achieve the desired result in the near future," he said.
