During the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counteroffensive in Kharkiv region in September 2022, the Russian occupiers managed to escape total defeat only because Ukrainian units had sustained losses in equipment.
This was explained by Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview with the "BAZA" project on "Radio Bayraktar."
“No one let them escape. When we captured Izium, we had a week to regroup and replenish losses, then we began advancing on the other side of the Oskil River,” he said.
According to him, Ukrainian units suffered significant losses in weaponry during the battles.
“In fact, battalions were left with only 2-3 pieces of equipment. There was nothing to fight with,” Syrskyi explained.
The Ukrainian general says that this was what prevented the complete destruction of the Russian forces retreating from Kharkiv region.
“The troops were exhausted after nearly a month of combat. All of this led to the need for time to regroup and replenish losses,” he concluded.
