The Air Force of Ukraine explained why the drones were able to fly all the way to Lviv
The city was subjected to strikes.
On the night of June 20, the Russian Federation attacked Lviv with drones
Last night, Iranian drones Shahed-136/131, launched by the Russian army, reached Lviv. This happened because Ukraine lacks air defense capabilities to protect the entire territory from Russian attacks.
Spokesperson of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, stated this on "Radio Svoboda."
"Those who flew over Ukraine by plane and looked out the window could see what a beautiful and great country we have. We cannot cover all directions with the current air defense systems, such as long-range and medium-range missile complexes. Currently, the air defense is deployed where it is most needed, protecting major cities, infrastructure facilities, nuclear power plants, and the front line. We simply lack sufficient air defense resources to provide comprehensive coverage for Ukraine, as the state of Israel did." – Ignat said.
The representative of the Armed Forces also emphasized that it is difficult for mobile fire groups to shoot down drones at night with small arms with a small radius. Ignat noted that drones fly along riverbeds using different routes.
According to the spokesperson of the Air Force, old fighter jets are unable to effectively destroy airborne targets.
"Pilots are capable and do everything possible, and there is a hit ratio. There are some results. But it is not enough because the equipment is morally outdated. That radar cannot see. It is impossible to effectively destroy them with this weaponry. We do everything possible, but we need F-16," Yuriy Ignat summarized.
