The general told what other military equipment Ukraine needs for a successful counteroffensive
If Russia is still trying to take quantity, Ukraine has a great chance to take quality. Especially in the context of providing Western weapons to Ukraine for a successful counteroffensive.
In a live broadcast on FREEDOM TV channel, retired lieutenant general, founder of the charity foundation "Close the Sky of Ukraine," Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2006 to 2010, Igor Romanenko, explained the correct ratio of high-precision weapons and the weapons currently used by Russia in combat.
"The modernized MiGs given to us by our Western partners do not fully realize the capabilities of a basic NATO aircraft such as the F-16, F-18. We are fighting because the modernization capabilities have improved compared to the Soviet options that they have.
But they have not yet reached the level of the basic NATO aircraft, which our military-political leadership is fighting for. And this is very correct, because, firstly, such aircrafts are already needed in defensive operations, and Ukraine is currently conducting a defensive operation to stop the enemy's tactical advances and destroy as much of the enemy's living force and equipment as possible, forcing them to switch to defense.
Only after that Ukraine can move on to offensive actions, if strategic-level reserves are prepared by that time”, Romanenko explained.
The military added that during the counteroffensive, the Ukrainian Armed Forces require effective air support.
"And these reserves include not only our infantry, which we value, but the support of tanks on the ground must be more effective than the Russian ones of the Soviet era, which they are currently reviving.
We need air cover of modern aviation with NATO capabilities, which they have more than Russian ones. But unfortunately, the opposite is true for now - the Russians have more modern aircraft with better capabilities and characteristics than our old Soviet ones. The situation has improved somewhat with the arrival of modernized Soviet aircrafts, but in principle, it will not change until 4+ generation aviation equipment is provided," said Igor Romanenko.
The lieutenant general added that Ukraine very much hopes to get modern aviation.
"There are possibilities, many countries have agreed, but there is no solution. Therefore, we are very hopeful based on the results of the work of our leadership with the leadership of the allies, first of all, the United States, as well as these cases and the behavior of the Russians, their nuclear games, I think that immunity in the West has to be. This can be seen from the results of the meeting in Moscow between Comrades Pu and Xi. This is the time to take decisive steps to provide aviation with new capabilities, especially on the eve of those counter-offensive actions that are being prepared," the military emphasized.
