Western air defense systems alone are not sufficient to fully secure the skies. F-16 fighters are crucial for bolstering defense against air strikes from the aggressor state.

This was said by the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, General Mykola Malomuzh, in a comment to "24Kanal."

According to him, these aircraft should arrive in Ukraine in the near future, based on statements from Western leaders.

Additionally, the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service highlighted the need to expedite the transfer of air defense systems to Ukraine.

"The mechanisms, the political will and the legislative decisions are in place, so it is important to accelerate the delivery timelines. Then we will protect Kherson, Kharkiv and in fact all regions. There is also a second echelon of air defense systems – the French and German IRIS-T. These are reliable systems to counter both "Shaheds" and missiles. I believe that in one to three months we will receive Patriot systems and dozens of other means," Mykola Malomuzh said.

However, he noted that even together with F-16 fighters, this will not be enough to completely secure the sky.

"But this will already mean that 90% of the sky is secured in various sectors. Particularly along the line where important defense and energy systems are located, and of course along the front line where enemy strikes  are anticipated," Malomuzh emphasized.
