In Ukraine, large-scale repair work on nuclear power units began in May 2023, so the power system has been experiencing a power deficit for several days.

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Management Board of NPC "Ukrenergo", announced this on the air of the telethon.

According to him, turning off the electricity to consumers is the last measure that can be applied.

The deficit in the energy system is already observed, but only in the evening. Therefore, Ukraine is limiting the export of electricity at this time and increasing the load on power units. The operation of solar generation allows balancing the system during the morning and daytime hours.

In addition, the power engineering specialists will maximize the utilization of thermal power plants and hydroelectric power plants that will not be undergoing repairs.

"The deficit, which may occur during the summer, does not mean disconnection of consumers. It can be regulated in several ways, and disconnection of consumers is the last on the priority list. The most obvious way to balance the Ukrainian energy system is the import of electricity from the countries of the European Union," he noted.
