Ukraine Is Facing Significant Power Deficit in the Energy System: Two Core Reasons are Named

As of the morning of January 29, the electricity consumption in Ukraine is at the same level as on Saturday, January 28th. The country is still facing significant deficit in the power system, Ukrenerho reports.

Ukrenerho explained that the reason for the deficit in the power system was Russian missile and drone strikes that had damaged power plants and the high-voltage grid.

Ukrenerho reminded that another Russian strike on January 26th caused significant damage to several high-voltage network facilities. However, the power grid is still recovering from previous series of enemy missile attacks that caused damage to power plant units. As a result, electricity generated by the operating power plants cannot fully cover consumption.
"For technical reasons, one of the units of thermal power plants was taken out of service for repairs, and the amount of electricity generated in the system has decreased. Because of this, all regional power distribution companies have been allocated reduced consumption limits that are valid throughout the day," the statement said.

In addition, the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged during the massive strike on January 26th continues. Moreover, after each Russian attack again the energy infrastructure, restoration process becomes more difficult and takes longer time. Currently, the engineers are actively working to restore the damaged facilities affected by Russian attacks.
