Ukraine, in its turn, freely grants access to the Russian prisoners of war for the UN representatives.

Russia still hasn’t granted the access to the Ukrainian prisoners of war for the UN mission, as Matilda Bogner, head of the UN Monitoring Mission on Human Rights in Ukraine said during the presentation of the UN report on human rights situation in Ukraine for the period between February 1st and July 31st, 2022, Ukrinform reports.

"During the reporting period, our human rights specialists had unhindered access to the places of the internment of prisoners of war in the territory controlled by the government of Ukraine. On the other hand, we were not granted confidential access to the places of the internment of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the territory controlled by the armed forces of the Russian Federation or by armed groups", she emphasized.

According to the head of the HRMMU, said Ukrainian prisoners of war faced serious risks to their health and safety from Russian and pro-Russian captors.

"They have been subject to cruel and degrading treatment by Russian security forces and those of the affiliated armed groups which appeared to be systematic both in the seized territories and in the places of internment in the Russian Federation ", Bogner summarized.
