In the event of a ceasefire at sea, it should primarily mean halting attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure.
This was stated by Spokesman of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, during a broadcast on Radio Svoboda.
"For us, a truce at sea means the cessation of attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure. That’s how we see it," he noted.
At the same time, according to Pletenchuk, Russia might interpret this concept in its own way, so final conclusions can only be drawn after reviewing the specific terms of a potential agreement.
The Navy spokesman emphasized that the maritime component of Russian attacks is currently not the primary threat. The main danger comes from strikes launched from the temporarily occupied Crimea. This includes, in particular, missile launches from the "Iskander-M" operational-tactical complex, as well as the use of "Shahed"-type kamikaze drones from Cape Chauda.
Additionally, Pletenchuk points out that it remains unclear whether these actions would be considered part of the maritime component in the event of a ceasefire declaration.
"Today, "Kalibr" missile carriers in the Black Sea have only been used three times in the past three months. The rest of the strikes are launched from land: from Crimea or Primorsko-Akhtarsk. Thus, drones approach from the sea, and we intercept them there, but whether this counts as part of the maritime front is a question," the Navy spokesman added.
