Will Ukraine use F-16 for strikes on Russia and who decides this?
The procedure for making collective decisions regarding the use of Western weapons limits the capabilities of the Armed Forces.
The possibility of using F-16 fighter jets for strikes on Russia depends on the decision of the US
Even before Ukraine received the first batch of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark, experts and analysts discussed the possibility of using them to strike Russian territory. Denmark has already granted such permission, but the final decision depends on the US.
Aviation expert Kostiantyn Kryvolap spoke about the nuances of using the F-16 by the Defense Forces of Ukraine in a commento to "Kanal 24".
The expert noted that the planes received by Ukraine were probably assembled in Belgium and the Netherlands. Denmark became the owner of the fighters after the purchase, but the manufacturer was and remains the United States of America.
How Western military equipment transferred to a third country, i.e. Ukraine, should be used is determined by both its owner and the manufacturer. Therefore, even after obtaining permission from the Danes for strikes on Russia, Ukraine needs the approval of the producing country - the United States.
"It is the same when the Poles were offered to protect at least part of the airspace along our western border. They said: "We are in favor, but we are part of NATO, so we need them to agree. We will have to use Patriots, and even here we need the approval of the Americans." These procedures greatly limit our capabilities," Kostiantyn Kryvolap noted.
