Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy states that he is not opposed to the rapid steps proposed by U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump to end the war. However, the Head of State emphasizes that Russia must pay for its aggression.
Zelenskyy made these remarks in an interview with media representatives from Northern European countries, commenting on the "quick peace steps" Trump plans to take if he wins the presidential election.
"I’m not sure that the policy will fundamentally change. I mean, even if there are people (referring to Trump - Ed.) who win and see some agreements, quick agreements, quick steps, etc., we also support a quick peaceful resolution. But we shouldn’t be the only ones paying for it," Zelenskyy notes.
He reminds that the aggressor is not Ukraine, but Russia, and it must bear the consequences.
According to the President, he would be happy if Kyiv and Washington share a common philosophy and vision.
"If not, I just want to remind you that Europe is large, much larger than Russia. I mean in terms of economy, arms, and military strength - very strong. So, the plan is not to lose with less support from the U.S. or if support decreases. Therefore, of course, we are counting on ourselves, on unity in Europe, and on the public opinion of the American people," Zelenskyy says.
