President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to maintain that Ukraine should not lower the mobilization age.
He stated this during an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of the economic forum in Davos.
According to Ukrainian law, only men aged 25 and older are subject to military conscription. U.S. officials and other Western allies have urged Ukraine to lower the conscription age, while Zelenskyy insists that weapons and missiles are more critical than additional soldiers.
"If there are people aged 25+ and they lack weapons, why mobilize younger individuals to increase the number of unarmed people? There must be logic and fairness," the President told Western journalists.
Zelenskyy emphasizes that in this war, the West cannot impose conditions on Ukraine, just as Ukraine cannot impose conditions on the West. He calls it "unfair" when the West refuses to supply long-range weapons while demanding that Ukraine mobilize younger people.
"The allies say: "Instructors cannot come to you in large numbers. We cannot train you in Ukraine because it’s dangerous. And by the way, you need to lower the mobilization age." This is an unfair dialogue," the President believes.
