On May 23, during the whole day, rescuers were eliminating the aftermath of the attacks of Russian terrorists in Kharkiv region. Kharkiv, Liubotyn, Derhachi were under attack. Missiles and then guided air bombs. One of Russia's targets was a publishing complex, one of the largest in Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during the evening address on May 23.
"A missile attack. People were killed, some were injured, a warehouse with books and equipment burned down. Many Ukrainian publishing houses were printing there. And this was a target for Russian terrorists. They want to burn and destroy all spheres of life," the President said.
He noted that there were many reactions in Ukraine and around the world to this latest act of Russian terror.
"But every time such strikes occur, when our cities and villages are destroyed, when lives are destroyed, books burn, and everything that preserves humanity is destroyed – it is always worth speaking openly about why this is still possible. It is only because Ukraine still has restrictions on its defense," he said.
Zelenskyy emphasizes that the lack of air defense systems, which the world actually possesses, results in the absolute inability to destroy the very source of Russian terror near Ukraine's borders, including the missile installations that strike Ukrainians.
