The Kremlin’s main task today during the missile strikes on Ukraine is clear — to cut power to the capital, Kyiv.

This opinion was expressed to TSN.ua by military expert Oleh Zhdanov.

«Unfortunately, as I understand it, the Kremlin has set the task of shutting down Kyiv. At any cost, Kyiv must be plunged into darkness. That’s why, as you can see, they are striking only the substations that currently power the city. And they are also trying to knock out the thermal power plants that are barely functioning, providing some heat or electricity. The goal is to bring us into a total blackout, ” he said.

Zhdanov believes the strikes also carry a political component.

«This is politics — an effort to shape Russia’s negotiating position. Trilateral talks in Geneva were scheduled for the 26th to the 28th. I believe this massive, non-combined strike was planned to coincide with those talks. The attack came this morning, with negotiations set to begin at noon. The talks were postponed until March, but the strike went ahead, ” the expert said.
