Russian occupying forces continue searching for new ways to disrupt Ukraine’s logistics routes as part of their hybrid warfare tactics, Retired Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko said in a comment to TSN.ua.
Why the Kyiv–Chop highway is in the crosshairs
According to Ihor Romanenko, the northern vector and Belarusian territory in particular remain a focus for the aggressor country’s military command when planning air operations. The analyst views the possibility of strikes on Ukraine’s key transport artery, connecting the capital to the western borders, as a very real threat.
«For the enemy, the opportunity to launch such attacks would be highly effective,» Romanenko explained.
By targeting logistical hubs and motorways with loitering munitions, the occupiers aim to choke cargo movement and terrorize civilians using the route.
The threat of a major escalation
The primary danger of such a scenario goes beyond physical infrastructure damage or risks to motorists. Utilizing Belarusian airspace for direct strikes on Ukrainian targets would force official Kyiv into a position where it must make tough military decisions.
«If these attacks originate from Belarus, Ukraine will be compelled to retaliate. This could serve as a trigger for an even greater aerial escalation in this hybrid war,» the lieutenant general warned.
