Sybiha will skip it too: Ukrainian MFA issues crucial statement on Gdansk conference

Despite Sybiha's absence, Ukraine will actively participate in the URC conference in Gdansk. The main goal is to deliver concrete results in recovery and security.

The Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) in Gdansk will take place without the personal presence of Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The ministry says the decision is intended to avoid unnecessary politicization of the event and keep the focus on practical outcomes related to Ukraine's recovery and security.

Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) confirmed this in a comment to TSN.ua.

The ministry explained that the format of the Gdansk conference does not require Sybiha's mandatory participation, as the event's focus has shifted from the diplomatic sphere to economic, security, infrastructure, and humanitarian dimensions.

"This year’s URC events in Gdansk do not strictly require the personal presence of the foreign minister. Similarly, the Polish side is not focusing on the foreign minister or the diplomatic component, but rather on the governmental, economic, security, infrastructural, humanitarian, business, and other dimensions to which the conference is dedicated," the Ukrainian MFA stated.

At the same time, they stressed that Ukraine's diplomatic service remains actively involved. The ministry and its Department of Economic Diplomacy have worked closely with the government for months to prepare the conference agenda and support negotiations and agreements.

“A great deal of work has been done, and we expect substantial results,” the ministry added.

They noted that the Ukrainian delegation will be led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, which represents the highest governmental level of representation.

The MFA stressed that the priority is to avoid unnecessary politicization and move toward the practical implementation of tasks.

"Our goal is to avoid unnecessary politicization of this international event, focusing instead on pragmatism and concrete solutions to support Ukraine and Ukrainians when it is desperately needed, in the fifth year of Russia's full-scale aggression," the ministry remarked.

They expressed expectations that the conference will prove to be a successful case of cooperation between Ukraine, Poland, and international partners, while offering gratitude to the Polish side for co-hosting.
