The process of peace negotiations cannot take place without Kyiv. Negotiating with Russia from a position of weakness is impossible, and Ukraine critically needs continued unity and support from its partners — from military assistance to political influence on public opinion.
Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, Kyrylo Budanov, wrote about this on social media.
He said Ukraine is currently going through the bloodiest war since 1945, and added that he hopes the country is now moving towards a decisive outcome.
«We are moving forward, and while it would be wrong to promise that peace will come tomorrow, tremendous efforts are under way. If I had to clearly define the current situation, I would describe it as one of „cautious optimism“, ” the head of the Presidential Office said.
Peace talks with Russia
Budanov said many people argued that Ukraine must have a place at the negotiating table. In fact, Kyiv is already involved in the negotiation process, which does not take place without it. He said significant work had been done with representatives of US President Donald Trump’s team.
«We understand that it is impossible to negotiate with Russia from a position of weakness. That is why Ukraine urgently needs continued unity and support from its partners — from weapons to political influence on public opinion. Disputes among partners only benefit the enemy, ” the head of the Presidential Office said.
He also said China was effectively using Russia’s weakness, economically absorbing it and increasing its political influence. Moscow understands this, he said, adding that it is painful for Russia.
«Our task is to bring all forces together, mobilize and finish the job. We need not just an end to the war, but peace, security guarantees and a clear plan for rebuilding Ukraine, ” Budanov said.
