How to force Putin to peace? Diplomat points to single condition
Peace in Ukraine will come when the Russian economy stops functioning, says Volodymyr Ohryzko.

Peace talks with Russia are pointless: the Kremlin «doesn’t grasp the meaning of a signed document» and always pushes ruthless demands. Diplomacy will not accelerate peace in Ukraine — only the collapse of Russia’s already strained economy will.
This view was expressed by Ukraine’s former Foreign Minister and head of the Russia Research Center, Volodymyr Ohryzko, according to 24 Kanal.
The diplomat says Russian resources are rapidly depleting, which gives real grounds for assumptions that the war could end in the near future. With 60% of Russians without a financial safety net, losing a job would leave them on the streets — a stark indicator of just how fragile Russia’s economy has become.
«Putin has driven both the Russian economy and its people to the edge. We can see entire industries stagnating, and even the military sector has started operating at a loss. Imagine the state of the rest, ” Ohryzko remarked.
He says the worse Russia’s economy fares, the sooner peace will be possible. Yet not everyone gets it — many still think a quick deal and signing a peace plan is enough.
«For Putin, formalizing anything on paper means nothing at all. I spent years negotiating face-to-face with Russians. They simply don’t grasp what a signature on a document is. For them, it counts for nothing, ” the ex-minister stressed.
He pointed out that Russia signs agreements only when it suits its own interests. The moment the benefit vanishes, all signatures instantly become meaningless.
Therefore, according to Ohryzko, the only language Moscow understands is strength. A powerful army, long-range missiles, and fighter jets are the path to peace. The Russian economy must be fully crippled — the moment it stops functioning, peace will follow.
