On May 9, ministers and diplomats from 35 EU member states and the Council of Europe arrived in Lviv to mark Europe Day. They have two major events ahead of them.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“European ministers and diplomats have arrived in Lviv: delegations from 35 countries and the Council of Europe are present,” the statement said.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha welcomed EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and the European colleagues.
The visit began with a tribute at Lychakiv Cemetery to Ukrainian heroes who died defending the country in the war with Russia.
“During the meeting, we discussed further joint efforts to strengthen Ukraine, increase pressure on Russia, and advance Ukraine’s EU accession,” the MFA quoted Sybiha.
He noted that two key events were ahead: a meeting of EU foreign ministers and a session of the Core Group on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
Kallas also posted photos from Lviv on social media on May 9.
“Today we celebrate Europe Day together with Ukraine and its people. Because in a family, both joy and hardship are shared by all. Together with the foreign ministers, we stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine for lasting peace. For a future we believe in,” said the EU's top diplomat.
