Russian dictator Putin misjudged the character of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the President’s Office explained what this could mean for the Kremlin leader.
“The debate about the role of personality in history will never end. There’s no point in diving into it when discussing President Trump’s statements, who now addresses the figure of Putin solely in the language of ultimatums. All the reasons together matter here,” Podolyak writes.
Yermak’s advisor lists the following reasons:
First reason
The United States has a strategic interest in securing peace, as it is the foundation of economic prosperity. America became great when it defeated those who disrupted the international order and ushered in the era of global trade.
Second reason
The Russian Federation is not a rational country capable of making adequate decisions. Its identity as a "Putinist authoritarian state" can only be expressed through violence, war, and mass demonstrative killings of civilians in another country.
Third reason
Putin misjudged Donald Trump’s character.
“After a long break, the U.S. is again led by a man who thrives on conflict, knows how to use forceful tools, and does not tolerate humiliation. If all these factors are put together, the course of events becomes easy to predict,” Podoliak believes.
