Russia has not only turned down the Christmas truce proposal but continues to launch heavy attacks and kill people on the day Ukrainians observe Christmas Eve.

This was said on Wednesday, December 24, by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a post on his Telegram channel.

He pointed out that Ukrainians share the frustration of Pope Leo XIV over Russia’s refusal to accept the recent Christmas truce proposal.

“Russia not only turned down the proposal to stop killings even on this holy day; it launched a massive missile and drone strike on Ukraine’s energy system, causing blackouts, and continues its assaults on the front lines,” said the Ukrainian president.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainians are marking their fourth Christmas under the conditions of a full-scale war, the largest in Europe since World War II.

“It is vital that people across the world do not stay silent. We must not let Russia normalize cruelty, terror, and aggression against our people. I urge all responsible leaders to back peace, as the pontiff does. We are grateful for every act of solidarity,” the Ukrainian leader stressed.

The President of Ukraine extended wishes for peaceful holidays and a joyful Christmas Eve to all celebrating today.

“May peace be restored in every peace-loving country and every community observing this holiday during wartime,” he added.
