On May 5, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held his final phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his capacity as chancellor.
This was reported by federal government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit, as cited by European Pravda.
It is noted that Scholz thanked Zelenskyy for the “close and trust-based cooperation” and “highlighted the courage, bravery, and determination of the Ukrainian President and the Ukrainian people in confronting Russian aggression.”
The leaders discussed pathways to achieving a lasting and just peace in Ukraine. Scholz referenced Kyiv’s readiness for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.
“(Putin — Ed.) must finally respond to this, stop his cynical tactics of stalling, and end his ruthless campaign,” the statement reads.
Additionally, Scholz reaffirmed Berlin’s support for Kyiv, alongside European and international partners.
