To end Russia’s war in Ukraine requires moving directly to a peace agreement rather than establishing a ceasefire.

Trump made the remarks following his meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin and talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“It was determined by all that the best way to end the terrible war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement that would end the war, rather than to a mere Ceasefire Agreement that is often not respected,” the U.S. leader said.

His statement came after the Alaska summit and a phone call with Zelenskyy and European leaders.

The American President declared “a great and very successful day in Alaska.” He described his meeting with Putin and his call with Zelenskyy as "very good".

Trump confirmed a meeting with Zelenskyy in Washington and, “if everything works out,” later with Putin.

“Potentially, millions of people’s lives can be saved,” he added.
