Russia is deliberately delaying the delivery of its draft «memorandum» with proposals for a peaceful settlement to release it just before the negotiations and seize the informational initiative.
This opinion was expressed by political scientist Ihor Reiterovych in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
«I wouldn’t be surprised if the Russians pull something like this. They’ll drag it out a bit longer and then release it to the public a day or two before the meeting. That could happen, ” he suggested.
According to him, such manipulation is possible despite earlier statements by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov that the terms of the «memorandum» would not be disclosed through the media.
In his view, if Ukraine does not receive the document from Russia, it should publicly declare the cancellation of the planned June 2 meeting in Istanbul due to the lack of substance to discuss.
He also believes that the Ukrainian side could set a deadline for receiving the document and appeal to partners, particularly the United States.
«They could even „send greetings to Trump,“ saying something like, „Volodymyr from Moscow loves you, but he can’t even manage to send a document to the Ukrainians, ” the political scientist adds ironically.
