Ukraine’s Ambassador to the UK and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, has outlined his personal vision of Ukraine’s victory in the war with Russia.

He stated this during a conversation with students, as reported by «Fabryka Novyn.» In his view, victory is not only the end of hostilities, but the creation of conditions for a secure and promising future for the next generations.

1. Sense of security

«First. After victory is announced, in 16–17 minutes, I want to feel safe. I want to feel safe after victory has been declared. I want to know that my grandchildren will not be fighting. This is the first thing I want to get. What is victory for me? The sense of security,» the former Commander-in-Chief explained.

2. Economic development

The second component Zaluzhnyi named is the development prospects for the state as a whole and for each individual citizen in particular.

«I want to get a sense that my country, my children, and my family have unlimited prospects for development. This can be linked to some kind of economic growth. This will, of course, extend to the possibility of developing. …The second thing I want to feel after victory is announced is that this country, exhausted by war and having paid a massive price, has gained a perspective. Of course, it will look cliché—involving some funds, some long-term programs, and so on,» Zaluzhnyi noted.

3. Territorial integrity

The third aspect concerns territorial integrity. Zaluzhnyi compared it to his own home: if a neighbor took part of your garden, for example, the issue should not be «closed.»

«If it turns out that in this home of mine, a piece of my garden or my shed is taken by my neighbor, the only thing I will do—when I am dying—is make my son swear that he will reclaim both the shed and this garden. And he will also swear to me that if he cannot do it, he will make his own son swear to do it, and he will swear to him that his son will take back everything that was taken from us as a result of this. That is what victory is for me personally as a citizen of Ukraine,» the diplomat added.

Summarizing, Zaluzhnyi briefly highlighted these points:

1) Sense of security — joining a security alliance.

2) Unlimited prospects — Ukraine must politically and economically enter a union.

3) Feeling of home — something inherent to every Ukrainian.
