Trump may have left the G7 Summit to avoid meeting Zelenskyy, as he lacks justifications for defending Putin.

The sudden departure of U.S. President Donald Trump from the G7 Summit in Canada was actually an «escape» to avoid a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This view was expressed by former Ukrainian Foreign Minister and Head of the Center for Russian Studies, Volodymyr Ohryzko, in an interview with Hromadske.
The diplomat explained why Trump might have sought to evade a meeting with Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
«In reality, his [Trump’s — ed.] pseudo-explanations, in my opinion, are merely a cover to avoid meeting Zelenskyy. Because he has nothing to say to Zelenskyy. He cannot find arguments to justify why he continues to defend Putin, ” Ohryzko stated.
«I think this is a situation where a person simply has nothing to say, and to avoid saying nothing, it’s better to leave. That’s what he did, ” he added.
According to the diplomat’s assessment, in relations with the Trump administration, Kyiv can only hope for arms sales and the sharing of intelligence data. At the same time, Ukraine should focus more on working with European partners.
«There’s no real choice; we need to mobilize Europe, to push our European partners to defend Ukraine and secure our skies. What happened in Ukraine today [the massive Russian attack] is yet another reproach to our European partners for being afraid of their own shadows, ” Ohryzko said.
He explained that if aircraft from a NATO country were to shoot down missiles over Ukrainian territory, that country would in no way be designated as being at war with Russia.
