Zelenskyy announced a new session of negotiations with representatives of US President Donald Trump, focusing on the most challenging elements of the basic framework for ending the war.
The president shared the update on social media.
On January 7, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov gave the first report on Ukraine’s negotiating team in France. Another session with US representatives is planned, the third round in two days.
“We expect that the most difficult issues of the basic framework will be discussed — including the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and Ukrainian territories,” Zelenskyy said.
He also tasked the team with exploring formats for high-level talks with other European countries and the US.
“Ukraine does not avoid difficult issues and will never block peace. Peace must be dignified. It depends on partners — whether they can ensure Russia’s real readiness to end the war,” the president added.
Following the day’s meetings, Zelenskyy expects a detailed briefing from the Ukrainian negotiation team. Ukraine’s delegation on January 7 will include Umerov, Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov, Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Budanov, Deputy Head of the Office Serhiy Kyslytsya, Servant of the People faction leader David Arakhamia, and Adviser to the Head of the Presidential Office, Oleksandr Bevz.
