Russia launches more than 30 «Shahed» drones at Dnipro, with drones hitting homes and residential courtyards

Dnipro is recovering after a large-scale overnight drone attack. Russian forces launched more than three dozen drones at the city. Most were shot down by air defences, but falling debris and direct hits caused significant destruction in residential neighbourhoods.

Explosions in a residential area

One Russian drone fell directly into the courtyard of a residential area in Dnipro. The blast wave and shrapnel shattered nearby apartment buildings. Immediately after the impact, cars parked near the buildings caught fire and began to explode. The flames quickly spread to ground-floor apartments.

A local resident, whose apartment had one room completely burned out, described a striking detail: the fire was caused by a fragment of a car that flew into his home.

«This is what flew in — a car headlight. A car was burning there and then exploded. That’s what caused the fire, ” the man says, pointing to the ruins of his flat.

In just one courtyard, residents are counting dozens of damaged cars and hundreds of shattered windows. Locals recall that explosions began one after another as most people were already preparing for sleep.

«A „Shahed“ fell over there among the branches of a poplar tree. Everyone was terrified. Cars parked there were damaged. Our family’s car was also hit — everything was smashed: the windows, the doors. But that’s just material things, ” says a resident of the damaged building.

Another eyewitness adds that virtually all property was damaged, but stresses that the most important thing is that people survived.

«All the windows, balconies, the loggia and the car were damaged. Everything is damaged. But everyone is alive. We are waiting for help from the authorities and from volunteers, ” she says.

Damage and injuries

Overall, the attack damaged:

• 15 apartment buildings;

• a vocational school and a dormitory;

• a school and kindergartens.

Seven people were injured, including two children. Most suffered glass-related injuries and severe shock. A 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital, where doctors describe her condition as moderate.

Municipal workers, volunteers and emergency services remain at the scene, clearing debris and assisting residents after the overnight attack.
