On December 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Pope Leo XIV. He spoke about initiatives aimed at achieving peace and the Vatican’s role in facilitating the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
The president shared these details on social media.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine greatly values all support from Pope Leo XIV and the Holy See, including ongoing humanitarian aid and the readiness to expand the presence of humanitarian missions.
During the audience with the Pope, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the Pope’s ongoing prayers for Ukraine, its people, and his appeals for a just peace.
“I briefed Pope Leo XIV on diplomatic efforts with the United States to secure peace. We also discussed continued efforts and Vatican mediation to bring back our children taken by Russia,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media.
He also invited the Pope to Ukraine, noting that it would send a powerful message of support to the Ukrainian people.
