In September, neighboring Belarus will host large-scale Russian-Belarusian military maneuvers. The drills will include simulations of nuclear weapons deployment and operations involving the «Oreshnik» intermediate-range missile system.

The announcement was made by Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, according to state news agency BelTA.

According to him, the Zapad-2025 exercises will feature planning scenarios for the use of nuclear weapons and the «Oreshnik» intermediate-range missile system.

«Of course, within the framework of the Zapad exercises, together with our Russian counterparts, we will rehearse the planning process for employing this category of weaponry. This is, above all, a key element of strategic deterrence. As the head of state requires, we must be prepared for any eventuality, ” the minister said.

Khrenin brazenly referred to the «situation on the country’s western and northern borders, ” asserting that Minsk „cannot passively observe militarization and military activity.“ He also, in a notably cynical remark, underscored Belarus’s purported „openness“ and „peace-loving“ stance.
