Combined overnight strike on Ukraine: 15 killed, others may be under rubble

Casualties and destruction reported across several cities and regions following an aerial attack launched by the Russian Federation.

On the night of April 16, Russian forces launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine. The latest death toll stands at 15. This figure is current as of now, with search and rescue operations still underway.

This was reported by Oleksii Kuleba, Minister for Development of Communities and Territories.

In total, more than 80 people were wounded; medics are fighting for their lives.

Attack on Ukraine, April 16 – regional situation

Kyiv. Four people were killed in the attack, including a 12-year-old boy. More than 40 others were injured. Destruction was recorded in the Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Desnianskyi districts.

Odesa. The deaths of eight people have been confirmed, with 14 others wounded. Residential, civilian, and critical infrastructure objects were damaged. The enemy struck ports and logistics: administrative and technical buildings of port operators and Ukrzaliznytsia freight cars were damaged.

Dnipropetrovsk region. Three people were killed, and more than 25 residents were injured.

In Kharkiv, a private house caught fire as a result of the strike; there are casualties.

Operational headquarters have been deployed on-site in all affected cities. Rescuers, utility services, medics, local authorities, and all responsible services are working. Efforts to eliminate the consequences of the strikes, provide aid to the people, and document the damage are ongoing.

Ukrainian Air Force statement

From the morning of April 15 to the morning of the following day, Russian troops launched 703 aerial targets to attack Ukraine. These included ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as strike drones. Ukrainian Air Defense neutralized 667 Russian targets.
