On the morning of February 3, Russian forces struck Kharkiv with a «Molniya» drone, hours after a large-scale overnight attack. One of the city’s main thermal power plants sustained heavy damage, forcing officials to drain water from heating systems in apartment blocks.
Mayor Ihor Terekhov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Synehubov and local council member Bohdan Tkachuk reported this.
An enemy drone strike was recorded in Kharkiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, with details still being clarified.
Situation in Kharkiv and the region after overnight attack
Oleh Synehubov said the region came under a massive enemy assault overnight. Russian forces deployed a large number of «Shahed» drones as well as missiles, aiming to strike energy infrastructure. Significant damage has been recorded.
All efforts are currently focused on the urgent stabilization of the energy system in Kharkiv and the surrounding region, as well as on shifting from emergency power cuts to planned outage schedules.
«We remain in constant coordination with relevant ministries, including the Interior Ministry and the Energy Ministry, to mobilize maximum resources to deal with the aftermath of the strikes and restore critical elements of the energy system, ” said Synehubov.
A total of 778 «Points of Invincibility» are operating around the clock, including 101 in the city itself. In addition, 354 heating centres have been prepared in advance.
One of Kharkiv’s major CHP plants damaged
Speaking on Kyiv24 TV channel, lawmaker Tkachuk said that one of Kharkiv’s major combined heat and power (CHP) plants had sustained heavy damage as a result of an enemy attack. Its restoration is currently impossible under existing conditions.
«There is general information about severe damage to one of the city of Kharkiv’s leading CHP plants. Accordingly, Mayor Terekhov said that water will start being drained today from more than 800 apartment buildings, because restoring this CHP plant is not possible at the moment. There is also a problem with electricity, ” Tkachuk said.
According to him, the Kharkiv metro is operating with delays, with train intervals ranging from 10 to 20 minutes. Restrictions are also in place on some tram and trolleybus lines, which have been replaced by buses.
Power supply situation in Kharkiv
«Electricity supply restrictions are also in place, of course, in residents’ homes. As for other services, cold water is available, and hot water is being supplied in some districts of the city of Kharkiv. All of this is functioning, ” Tkachuk said.
