Russia strikes other sites during "energy truce", Zelenskyy says

Russia has not fully complied with its commitment to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. Regular drone and air bomb strikes by the aggressor state continued throughout the day.

Russia has largely refrained from striking Ukraine’s energy facilities since overnight, but has not stopped its terrorist attacks on civilian infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address on Friday, January 30.

He said Russia had failed to fully comply with its pledge to avoid attacks on energy sites, after Russian air strikes hit gas infrastructure in Donetsk region.

“Currently, we are also seeing Russia shift its focus toward strikes on logistics and key railway hubs. In particular, one of Ukrzaliznytsia’s special railcars, a mobile power station, was hit this morning in Dnipropetrovsk region,” the president added.

Zelenskyy stressed that despite enemy attacks, railway workers continued to operate and maintain connections across all regions.

The Ukrainian leader also stressed that the aggressor state continued its usual drone and aerial bomb attacks throughout the day.

“In Kharkiv region, a ballistic missile struck the warehouses of the American company Philip Morris, causing a significant fire. There were also strikes on Nikopol, Kherson, and border areas of Kharkiv, Sumy and Chernihiv regions. Our response is fully reciprocal,” he said.

Zelenskyy also recalled a statement from US partners confirming that the aggressor state would refrain from targeting energy infrastructure for a week.

“Last night, the countdown began. Of course, it depends on our partners — particularly the United States — how this will unfold. Ukraine is ready to mirror restraint and today we did not strike any Russian energy facilities,” the Ukrainian president said.
