Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, has assessed the risks of a new Russian offensive from the territory of Belarus. The Ukrainian command continues to prepare for any challenges, factoring in even the worst-case scenarios.
Syrskyi made these remarks in an exclusive interview with TSN during the «United News» national marathon.
According to Syrskyi, Ukraine’s military command has a clear understanding of the Russian dictator’s intentions. The Kremlin has not ruled out the northern direction and continues to view it as one of the possible avenues for a future offensive.
«We must account for all options, even the worst-case scenarios. We know that Putin has ordered the Russian General Staff to calculate various options for conducting an offensive operation, including from the territory of Belarus, to capture Kyiv and other territories. The Russian leadership has calculated several courses of action,» the commander-in-chief said.
Will Belarus dare to re-enter the war?
Despite the Russian command’s aggressive plans, Syrskyi expresses serious doubt regarding Minsk’s readiness to openly offer its territory as a staging ground for an invasion again.
Assessing the feasibility of such a move, the Commander-in-Chief explained that the military and political leadership of Belarus is unlikely to take that risk.
«As for how realistic they are, given recent events, I believe the Belarusian leadership will not dare to use its own territory or provide it to the aggressor as a staging ground to launch an offensive operation,» Syrskyi concluded.
