The massive strike by Russia on Kyiv on the night of May 24 demonstrated no technological or tactical novelties, but rather revealed the enemy’s clear bet on overwhelming Ukrainian skies.

Serhii (Flash) Beskrestnov, a communications systems specialist and advisor to the Minister of Defense, explained the distinct features of the enemy’s latest attack.

Too many missiles

According to him, the occupiers once again placed their main bet on the quantity of missiles, which were «too many for our air defense resources.» At the same time, Ukrainian defenders achieved record results in countering drones thanks to new approaches.

Ukraine is getting better and better at fending off «Shaheds» — «Flash»

«Regarding the „Shaheds,“ the Defense Forces demonstrated better performance than the average for the half-year. This time, the share of interceptors already accounted for over 40% of all downed „Shaheds.“ The positive dynamic in the work of the Ministry of Defense and the Defense Forces of Ukraine over the past 4 months is obvious,» «Flash» claims.

The expert says that in this raid, as in the previous one, the «Shaheds» relied on mass attack tactics, flying along identical routes in an attempt to overwhelm air defenses.»

- A small number of jet-powered «Shaheds» attempted to attack Kyiv from the north, with both «Geranium-3» and «Geranium-4» being deployed.

- There were few guided «Shaheds,» in this attack the enemy bet on mass volume rather than efficiency.

Furthermore, no attempts to control the «Shaheds» from Belarus were recorded this time.

«It is too early to draw conclusions. Perhaps this is because the entire strike was aimed at Kyiv, and not at the western part of Ukraine, like last time,» «Flash» suggested.

Striking «ghosts»: What the enemy was targeting?

«Flash» emphasized that there was no real military expediency in the Russia’s choice of targets. The objects in Kyiv were chosen rather as a formal pretext for terrorizing civilians.

«I believe that the targets in Kyiv were chosen by the adversary merely as a pretext for a strike on the city. For example, a factory in Lukianivka, where over the years of the war missiles have long since blown apart everything possible, or the territory of the Ground Forces Command, where no one has been since day one of the war, just like at all similar objects in Kyiv,» he explained.

«Flash» added that he saw nothing technologically or tactically new in this attack.
