Ukraine's EU membership by 2027: When to expect a response from Brussels

The Cabinet of Ministers expects a response from the EU regarding the model for Ukraine's future accession to the bloc as early as May of this year.

Currently, there is no clear model for Ukraine's accession to the EU. However, this is not considered a problem. Discussions among member states on this matter are actively ongoing. They are also aiming for the year 2027. That is, no one has rejected the idea of Ukraine having some model of accession to the European Union by 2027.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka during a briefing with journalists in Kyiv, according to TSN.ua.

According to Taras Kachka, the current question is what this accession model will be. The government official emphasizes that this will become clear in the first half of this year.

"No one has rejected this proposal. No one has said that we will have a "Balkan scenario": where you fulfill benchmarks, then we open clusters, close them, and start thinking about a treaty on the terms of accession to the EU, and then we spend an eternity ratifying it. This is not happening. On the contrary, there is an understanding that there must be some response from the EU. When will this happen? From what we see—May, when certain approaches are conceptualized. Also, the Council of the EU is actively working on this. Therefore, I think it will be clear to us in the first half of the year," says Taras Kachka.
