The government of Viktor Orbán in Hungary has made the topic of Ukraine a part of pre-election manipulations. Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine advises Ukrainians to refrain from traveling to this country before the elections to avoid possible provocations.

The statement was made by Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi during a briefing on Wednesday, April 8.

«We don’t know what is on the minds of the Hungarian authorities, ” he said.

Heorhii Tykhyi recalled the recent incident with Ukrainian cash-in-transit guards who were detained on trumped-up charges and emphasized the lack of guarantees that such situations would not happen to other citizens for some other reason.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also officially appealed to Ukrainians with a call to refrain from sending observers to the elections in Hungary.

«Budapest, unfortunately, has made Ukraine a topic of the election campaign, manipulations, and constant provocations. We officially appeal and urge you not to go, not to send observers,» he said.

The MFA spokesman stressed that the call applies to both activists of public organizations and employees of international structures.
