Ukraine does not plan to reopen its airspace for civilian aviation in the near future due to the security situation, the deputy prime minister for restoration told DW Ukraine.

He said that restoring air travel is possible only if full flight safety can be guaranteed, which is currently impossible.

«The key factor remains the security situation. It does not allow us to consider reopening the airspace as a near-term prospect, ” Kuleba stressed.

He said that any decisions on resuming civilian flights will be made only after proper conditions for passenger and infrastructure protection are in place.

Government explains the situation with flights

At the same time, work on the future restoration of the aviation sector is already underway. In mid-March, Ukraine established a special working group tasked with developing mechanisms for launching civilian flights and ensuring airport security.

This includes preparing infrastructure and creating solutions that will allow air travel to resume as soon as it becomes safe.
