Zelenskyy lays out major differences with Russia on ceasefire

Zelenskyy said Kyiv’s stance on territorial matters in talks with Russia is absolutely clear and was fully understood by US partners. At the same time, he acknowledged the existence of fundamental differences with Moscow on these issues.

He said this at a business forum in Germany.

«We clearly understand what they (Russia, — ed.) want. We may believe it, someone else may not believe it, but we know with absolute certainty what they want. And it is important that our American partners clearly understood me, ” he stressed.

The president said his top priority was to clearly convey Ukraine’s position, without «unnecessary commas and ellipses.» He acknowledged deep disagreements between Ukraine and Russia over territory and said these differences must be addressed openly.

«Of course, our positions with Russia on territorial issues are different. This needs to be understood and discussed in an absolutely open manner, ” Zelenskyy said.

He said he was satisfied that the sides had «heard one another» and suggested the United States could take on a mediating role and propose different steps to help resolve the conflict.
