Ukraine developing its own "Iron Dome": Air Force reveals details
Ukraine is working on a new air defense system that will resemble Israel’s “Iron Dome” in principle.
Ukraine’s Air Force has announced work on a new air defense system
Pavlo Yelizarov, Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, said this in an interview with journalist Yanina Sokolova.
According to him, the Ukrainian model will not be a full copy of the Israeli system. The main reason is Ukraine’s much larger territory, which cannot be fully protected using expensive interceptor missiles such as Patriot or IRIS-T alone.
“Our dome will be different from Israel’s because it has to be much bigger. In terms of scale, Israel’s dome would be just a small spot on ours,” Yelizarov said.
He added that specialists have already identified four key elements that will form the basis of the future defence system, with work on the project proceeding according to an approved plan.
The system is expected to improve Ukraine’s ability to counter aerial threats and become a key component of the country’s layered air defense.
