«They flatten everything in their path»: Air Force warns of new «Shahed» swarm tactics

Ukraine’s Air Force has started adopting new counter-drone tactics due to changes in Russian operations.

Russian forces are now launching "Shahed" drones in large swarms to breach Ukrainian defenses. Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Pavlo Yelizarov, explained how the enemy’s new attack pattern works.

He discussed this in an interview with journalist Yanina Sokolova.

New "Shahed" attack tactics

The Russian invaders have shifted their approach to strike drones and now launch "Shaheds" in large groups, aiming to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense system.

“They no longer fly in small groups. It’s like wild boars running through the forest, flattening everything in their path. And this pattern will continue to intensify,” Yelizarov warned.

He added that even positioning mobile fire units in multiple echelons does not guarantee complete interception of enemy UAVs. For instance, if around 15 drones fly over one area simultaneously, some still manage to break through.

That is why the Air Force has begun introducing a new tactic to counter drones and is gradually moving to a different model to defend against such attacks, Yelizarov said.
